Access Statement

Who Are We

Introduction

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our home based 4 bedroom guesthouse. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.

Unfortunately we do not have a ramp or chair lift available in the property, as this is a Victorian built house, therefore a tall narrow building, with no ground floor accommodation available.

Pre-Arrival

  • Most people arrive at The Bronte Guest House by either foot or taxi; there is no bus service from the bus/train station this side of the City centre.

  • The Main train station is a 15 min drive by car due to traffic, or a 20/25 minute walk.

  • We have a free phone number for a reliable taxi firm, we are able to book any required taxis.

  • Menus can be provided in large print if required.

  • We have a detailed website on all our facilities.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • Parking at the property is on the opposite side of the road, which is a one-way street. There are parking bays; however we will issue a permit to cover all aspects of parking.

  • We can assist guests with luggage.

  • The City centre is only a 10/15 minute walk.

Main Entrance & reception

  • On arrival to the property there is an iron entrance gate, which has a small step approximately 5cm high.

  • The surface level is flat and made of concrete, leading up to the House.

  • To enter the vestibule there is a step of approximately 9cm high, 26cm deep, followed by a second step approximately 18cm high into the vestibule?

  • The front door is always locked but we have a push button door bell, which can be reached from any height.

  • The doorway is 85cm wide.

  • On entry to our home there is a hallway 85 cm wide, including furniture, which could be moved.

  • There is a chair provided in the hallway, also the dinning room is through a door on the left hand side for further seating.

  • The building is carpeted throughout.

 

Public Areas – General (Internal)

  • The corridors and stair well are 85cm wide most doors are leading to guest areas are 85cm wide.

  • Corridors have a good colour contrast and are well light, including fire safety lighting.

  • The breakfast room is on the ground floor.

  • There are 14 stairs to the first landing turning point, (there is a fire escape exit point 73cm wide) which then either turns to the first floor with a further 7 stairs, or straight ahead room 4, which has a further 6 stairs leading up to it.

  • The stairs are 85cm wide 15cm high and 25cm deep.

Public Areas – WC

  • There is a WC on the ground floor with an opening of 65cm wide.

Dining Room

  • Breakfast is served in the dining room on the ground floor. There are no steps and the doorway is 85cm wide.

  • Furniture is flexible and can be moved.

  • Tables have under space of 70cm high by 58cm wide and a height of 75cm (legs on each corner). There are no chairs with arms.

  • Menus are provided also in large print if asked.

  • There are 4 bedrooms, 2 on the first floor and 2 on the second floor.

First Floor Bedroom Rm 1 Super king with en-suite

  • Off the landing, on the first floor, through an open doorway gap 89cm wide,

  • Entering the room, door width is 72cm wide.

  • Gap around the bed at the narrowest point is 58cm wide

  • En-suite entrance is 74cm wide.

  • The shower cubicle has a step of 26cm

  • Free floor space 184cm x 88cm

  • Basin is square at the front and is 77cm high.

  • Toilet is 42cm high

  • Good colour contrast of walls, floors and fittings.

 

First Floor Bedroom Rm 2 Single with En-suite

  • Off the landing, on the first floor, through an open doorway gap 89cm wide,

  • Entering the room, door width is 72cm wide.

  • Gap around the bed at the narrowest point is 66cm wide

  • En-suite entrance is 66cm wide.

  • The shower cubicle has a step of 27cm.

  • Free floor space 76cm x 76cm

  • Basin is square at the front and is 79cm high

  • Toilet is 42cm high

  • Good colour contrast of walls, floors and fittings.

First Floor Bedroom Rm 5 Double with En-suite

  • Off the first landing turning point, which then either turns to the first floor, or straight ahead room 5, which has a further 6 steps to the room entrance.

  • Entering the room, door width is 73cm wide.

  • Gap around the bed at the narrowest point is 38cm wide

  • En-suite entrance is 66cm wide.

  • The shower cubicle has a step of 16cm.

  • Free floor space 150 x 80cm

  • Basin is round at the front and is on a vanity 84cm high

  • Toilet is 40cm high

  • Good colour contrast of walls, floors and fittings.

 

First Floor Bedroom Rm 6 Double with En-suite

  • Off the landing, on the first floor, first room on the right.

  • Entering the room, door width is 85cm wide.

  • Gap around the bed at the narrowest point is 58cm wide

  • En-suite entrance is 73cm wide.

  • The shower cubicle has a step of 15cm.

  • Free floor space 120cm x 68cm

  • Basin is round at the front and is 80cm high

  • Toilet is 42cm high

  • Good colour contrast of walls, floors and fittings.

From the first floor there is a further 12 steps to a landing, which then turns with a further 7 steps onto the second floor.

On the left there is a fire escape exit door 73cm wide, then a steep 15 steps to another fir exit door leading to the next building 73cm wide.

 

Second Floor Bedroom Rm 3 with En-suite

  • Entering the room, door width is 75cm wide.

  • Gap around the bed at the narrowest point is 58cm wide

  • En-suite entrance is 74cm wide.

  • The shower cubicle has a step of 26cm.

  • Free floor space 176cm x 116cm

  • Basin is round and is on a vanity unit 78cm high

  • Toilet is 42cm high

  • Good colour contrast of walls, floors and fittings.

 

Second Floor Bedroom Rm 4 with En-suite

  • Entering the room, door width is 75cm wide.

  • Gap around the bed at the narrowest point is 58cm wide

  • En-suite entrance is 65cm wide.

  • The shower cubicle has a step of 28cm high.

  • Free floor space 184cm x 88cm

  • Basin is round and is on a Vanity unit 86cm high

  • Toilet is 42cm high

  • Good colour contrast of walls, floors and fittings.

 

Grounds & Garden

  • We have a small enclosed garden/yard (Oasis in the City). Residents are able to use this facility, which comprises of a decked area with a table 4 chairs and a number of flower pots, there is then a step down to an area with fake grass.

 

Additional Information

  • Unfortunately no pets or assistance are permitted to enter the house, this due to one of the owners is totally allergic and is very asthmatic.

  • Mobile reception is good

  • We have wireless facility which is good in certain parts of the house.

  • We are able to use the front and back doors in the need of evacuation; the fire alarm rings continually if evacuation is needed. If you require assistance for evacuation please notify us on arrival and we will endeavour to evacuate you safely.

  • We are totally none smoking throughout, anyone wishing to smoke may use the outside front area of the street, and there is a bin on the opposite side of the road.

  • For anyone requiring medication storage, we are happy to use the fridge/freezer in the kitchen on request.

  • Our main hours of operation are: closed December 18th until December 27th, other dates depend on refurbishment and decoration time and also personal holidays.

  • The home is occupied 24 hours, except for shopping trips and bank runs. The telephone is monitored 24 hours (diverted if out).

Future Plans

  • At present the only plans in place will be the refurbishment of rooms, which take place in the first week of January.
